By checking your appliances regularly, you can make them last longer. If you buy a new one, be sure to save the instruction manual and the warranty document (if there is one).

When you do maintenance or repair yourself, it is helpful to look at a picture of the inside of the appliance first. See pictures of home appliances.

• Make sure the appliance is plugged in
• If the appliance is under warranty, you can probably get it repaired for free
• If you can’t fix it yourself, call the 800 number and ask for a certified repair person. Ask ahead of time how much they charge and how long it will take them to fix it.
